The Band

Phoenix Ceilidh Band was formed around 2006, with the original members being Dave Dobson, Cath Stevens, Tony Charnock and Alan Hardwick.We’ve brought the joy of traditional dancing with live music to all sorts of parties, gatherings and celebrations across the north of England.Tony led all but a handful of the first 438 ceilidhs, calling the dances from the floor with his own distinctive blend of charm and gentle humour.The band's success is due in great measure to his hard work. Tony left in 2020 for a well-earned retirement and since then in his place we now have Dominic, Steve and occasionally Anita.

More recently Alan, our original box and banjo player, has also retired leaving a gap difficult to fill. In his place we now have Mark Mawby, an experienced fiddle player; also button accordion player Paddy Hefron. We also now and again can call on other musicians for larger ceilidhs. Of course, we still have Cath Stevens (fiddle, flute and whistles) and Dave Dobson (bouzouki, bass, pedals and sound) from our original line-up.

We sometimes get asked if people can come and see us before booking us for their event (a great idea), therefore we make clear on our gig list to indicate which are open events.
